Here is his first letter home -

Dear Mom and Dad,

The first day here has been a whirlwind of information and very interesting to say the least. But I love it here so far. My companion is Elder Toone from Roy, UT and he is going to Hawaii along with one other Elder in our district who rooms with Elder Toone and I. the other Elder in our room, Elder Beckstrami is going to the....Grandma and Grandpa will love this; Johannesburg South Africa mission the day before us. It is anticipated that we will leave for Hawaii the 14th of July. Please pass on to Dan and Steph that they will not be able to see me off at the airport. I will, when I know, let you know for sure when I leave. While I began writing this letter, I was called out by our Branch President and was assigned to be our District Leader here in the MTC; way to be thrown into the fire huh? So that is my calling for the length of our MTC visit. Today was a lot of orientation, tomorrow begins the real teaching and learning portion of my stay here. So I didn't have much that was exciting to report, except my calling.
Let everyone know I love them and that they'll hear from me on Monday, but I was only supposed to write my parents today. Inform everyone of my address that is on the envelope.
I want you to know I love this gospel and am excited to learn more and teach the people of Hawaii. I know that Joseph Smith restored the Church to the Earth in this dispensation and that he saw God and Jesus Christ. I know that Thomas S. Monson is the true President and Prophet of this Church; the mouthpiece of our Father in Heaven. I know that Jesus Christ lived and died for us so that we might live with him again. I know that this atonement is for our personal use and if we use it and endure to the end with perfect faith we can receive Eternal Life. Life with our Father. I love you guys. I bear that testimony in Christs' name. Amen.
Love,
Elder LaPray
